At the same
time its nature acts as a filter to
the big changes of our modern
culture. That's why we can
understand
the various adjectives used
to describe Umbria: calm,
restful, a Region with human
dimensions.
This
region has another characteristic:
the extraordinary beauty of its
monuments and its churches and the
architecture of its minor centres.
Craft
has always been a
peculiarity of this region,
reaching often high art levels.
Ceramics, the working of iron,
copper and wood are only some
examples still present in Umbria.
Umbria
is 85000 sq km wide, with a
population of about 800.000,
situated between Lazio and Tuscany,
the Marches, Emilia Romagna and
Abruzzo. It is the only peninsular
region without coastal areas. It is
composed of two provinces: Perugia
and Terni. The main river is the
Tiber, the main lakes are Trasimeno
and Piediluco.
